North End Boston Fountain
Chantelle and Scott met while he lived in Boston's North End, and they wanted to do their engagement pictures there to commemorate that. Awesome.
But sometimes city parks, even historic plazas like Paul Revere Mall, can feel a little dirty, crowded, and even over-run with tourists. I could try being a diva, and say "we have to go elsewhere, this will never work!", but that 's not really the vibe Lucia and I try to have with our couples. We're going to circle around and explore the possibilities, and find a way to isolate our couple visually even though another bus of school children just arrived!
There's a fountain in the center of the plaza, and the obvious thing to do is to set our couple on the edge and photograph them and the fountain and the nearby buildings and walls, but that just didn't feel intimate. This image, created by circling around to the back and shooting through the water drops, gave them a little privacy in the middle of a crowd. To show the water drops, I slowed my shutter down, and shone a light from the left side of the image directly towards the fountain, giving the water it's own sparkle.
We spent the evening creating dozens of beautiful images in Boston, but this is one of my favorites because of the challenge of creating intimacy in a busy spot.
