The Head Table

Two weeks before her wedding, Elizabeth told us that her head table was going to be on the balcony at Grace - 16 feet up over the dance floor.

I've worked at Grace before, and experience has taught me that the only way to photograph a table on the balcony is to have the camera 20 feet up in the air - directly over the bar!

My first thought was that I could climb a very tall ladder, but that seemed too obtrusive during the party. That same logic ruled out flying a drone inside, which is also not exactly legal. But we knew we were going to need to photograph the wedding party at the table, so we kept working on it.

In the end, we modified an extremely tall light stand to hold a camera, and wired the camera so that we could see through the viewfinder and operate it remotely, and then cranked it up high enough to get this shot.

Not as much fun as flying a drone over a sea of partiers, but we got the shot for Elizabeth and Brent's album without damaging any attendees!
