Frank and Marie described what their wedding was going to be like to Lucia and I, and we nodded our heads like we could picture it, but whatever we were thinking, we were wrong! They’ll be some dancing they said, and we thought, of course. There will be some music they said, and we thought, of course.
There were 5 drummers accompanying 10 singers and 30 dancers performing. If you have a chance to go to a Rwandan wedding – it’s definitely a good time!
If you’ve found this wedding post, I hope you’ve seen a wedding or two at the Nonantum, so you can appreciate how fabulously unique Frank and Marie’s wedding this August really was.
We found Marie in her suite upstairs, with her hair/makeup team, and her sisters and daughters, other people’s kids, brothers coming by – there were a lot of people.Aren’t the wedding bands beautiful! The Nonantum had that adorable crab pillow on the bed, and all the crab’s jewels are sewn buttons. Close up shot of the rings at the end of this article, BTW.At a lot of weddings, the kids steal the show, and this was no different. The Ceremony
A peaceful summer afternoon by the riverFrank walked his mother to her seat.Marie, ready to go, on her father’s arm.One of the great things about Nonantum weddings is having the water and boats in your wedding pictures!Marie really wanted to leave the grounds for a few images, and we went to the beach/park just down Ocean Avenue, while the guests enjoyed cocktails.
The Reception
Back at the Nonantum, it was time for the bride and groom to make their entrances. Cue the drummers, and dig the dancers.Throughout the reception, different teams of dancers, with different costumes, would perform these very athletic African dances. With the dances done, and the cake eaten, Frank and Marie made a short speech, had a last dance, and called it a night.
