I met Will at a bridal show - he was so personable and friendly, and his demeanor, energy, and talent as a photographer blew me away and I knew he had to be my wedding photographer. It was just meant to be.

Will's photography is not cookie cutter. There is real artistry in his images and he really makes each occasion different from the next. Will and Lucia keep up with the latest trends and have the talent and experience to keep the photography current yet timeless. The first glance photo shoot was one of the items that really caught my eye. To be able to have that intimate moment with my soon-to-be husband was priceless. It was a moment I will cherish forever.

Our wedding photography was perfect. We had excellent coverage of the entire event but enough space to allow us to enjoy our wedding moments. And the image assortment was stellar. I love all the little details that Will captured. While taking our romantic images, he kept us laughing and having a wonderful time . The candid shots are great (and sometimes hilarious)! I've seen other wedding albums where all the photographs look staged - I found these albums to be down right boring to look at - an album from Focus Photography would never fall in this category.

I will certainly use Focus Photography again in the future. Will and Lucia are a dynamic duo -they balance each other out perfectly and spending time with either one was always a treat.

I was referred to Focus by a wedding coordinator in Maine. The coordinator spoke highly of Will and Lucia's work and exclaimed about their attention to detail and quality of images.

Our wedding coverage was excellent. I felt like I was doing a shoot for Vanity Fair during my solo session:) And Will made me feel comfortable! This is extremely important as you want to look your most beautiful on your wedding day.

Will has an eye for detail which shows in the exceptional images of our wedding party. I was pleased that all of my family and friends were captured in formal and candid photos. I had a great time with my solo pictures along with group pictures. The process was streamline as all the group photos had been discussed in detail with Lucia prior to the wedding day. Will's attention to detail led to some wonderful group images showing everyone looking their best!

I would like to thank Will and Lucia for a wonderful experience. I initially came to Lucia with the concern about the height difference between myself and my soon to be husband. He is 6 foot 7 inches tall and I am 4 foot 11 inches tall. Now how is that for a challenge! I wanted to be sure that when people viewed our images they saw the beauty and not the height difference between us, even though it is pretty cute! I am pleased to say that Will and Lucia were so creative with our poses and I could not ask for better photos of the two of us. This is just one example of how Focus has gone above and beyond to deliver exceptional images!

    Thank You.

We chose Focus Photography after falling in love with images or theirs that we stumbled upon on-line while looking for wedding venues. After doing a search we found the focus website and continued to ooww and ahhh over more photos.

We liked that our wedding images really captured the entire event - the little things, details, moments that weren't your standard poses. The images are more like pieces of art then photos you put in a book and forget about.

Our pictures are just gorgeous - I love everything about them. Will took two camera shy people and really made them look their best. They were far and above my expectations - I couldn't have asked for anything more.

I am so thankful that we went with Focus Photography. Our pictures are gorgeous, and everyone who sees them loves them as much as we do. It was the best decision we ever made for our wedding.

Will was recommended to us as 'head and shoulders' above anyone else by Gerry Hill at Point Lookout. In fact, when I asked for other names he said there really aren't any others that will do the job right. Additionally, the Focus website really impressed my husband and I because of the mood caught on film - looking at stranger's weddings is usually pretty boring, but we spent hours going through the ones on the site because we felt like we knew the people after seeing the photography.

I loved the creative outdoor shots that I saw. I really wanted outdoor shots, and given we got married in February in Maine it was hard to find someone interested in creating the 'snow bride', winter wonderland feeling. The focus was always on the people, which seems like it should be obvious but others we saw had the focus elsewhere. Call me bridezilla but I wanted the focus on me!

From the first phone call I loved Will. after that it was like talking to a friend which made the whole process seamless and fun and candid. The group image of all the people at the wedding is my favorite....it captures the mood and is just what I wanted.

The outdoor shots look like a postcard, which is just what I wanted. Will had to climb around a deck under dangerous icicles, and make a path for me to walk on, but we got the dream shot! Mix was just what I wanted....

We were recommended to Focus from our wedding planner. The pictures on their site were great and it was easy to work with them to plan a destination wedding.

Our wedding coverage was perfect, I don't think you missed a moment. All the images were great and it wasn't stressful at all. I felt at ease the entire day. And the mix of photography was great. Although some photos were posed, they looked natural and make me look my best.

At first, I didn't think I wanted to do any photos prior to the ceremony, but I was glad we did. It gave Eric and I an opportunity to spend some time together before the ceremony and have a private moment to ourselves without everyone watching us. Plus the photos were great and gave us a lot to choose from.

    Questions to Ask Photographers

Because 85% of the people reading this have never been married before, never interviewed a wedding photographer before, and may not know what information to ask when interviewing photographers, we thought we'd include a few questions to get you started. These questions are from our guide "How to Choose Your Wedding Photographer", a free collection of articles Will's written, and he'll answer the questions for us below.

By the way, if you're interested in getting the whole guide, just let us know.

How many weddings have you photographed by yourself
(and not acting as someone else's second shooter or assistant)?

As an industry, we consider photographers who have only worked with other shooters apprentices; less than 20 weddings are just starting out; 20 - 50 is somewhat experienced; and more than that is very experienced. As photographers, we improve with every wedding we do (or we should, anyway), so you have some excellent grounds for asking.

Every couple has a different feeling about whether they care if their photographer is learning during their wedding, or has the experience to handle whatever unforeseen circumstances happen during a wedding day.

Will's Answer: Lucia and I have been shooting together for over a decade, and had years when we lived in Southern California where we shot more than fifty weddings in just that year. At this point we've photographed more weddings than I want to know the total of, but the total is still less than five hundred.

What qualifies you to photograph my wedding??

Photographers might be members of national or local photography guilds; be certified by a professional group; or tell you about their photography education and experience. Many people are good with a camera, but that doesn't mean you should pay them to photograph your wedding.

Will's Answer: I'm one of six nationally certified photographers in the state of Maine; the current president of the Maine Professional Photographers Association; a three-time winner of Kodak's Gallery award; and the 2010 and 2011 winner of the Wedding Album of the Year award for Maine.

So those are some of my credentials, and perhaps what qualifies me, but not the most important thing you should know. I love weddings, maybe more than anything else we do, and I'm constantly expanding the skill and techiniques that I and all my staff bring to weddings. This year, we're going to create wedding images that will make people gasp, laugh, cry, and fall in love all over again. It's going to be a blast, and I hope you'll come back to our galleries all summer long to see the amazing new images we'll be posting.

My wedding images are amazing, of course, but what people can't stop talking about is how much fun we had on our wedding day! I've been in close to a dozen wedding parties over the last few years, and I've never seen a photographer have as much fun at a wedding as Will does, which made all of the bridal party relax and have fun, which helped Terry and I really enjoy our wedding day.

Easily the wedding of the century (if I don't say so myself) - thanks for keeping it fun while getting incredible images! Can't wait to show off the album.

How do you work with couples during the wedding day?
(What style of photography do you specialize in?)

This is a good question to ask to get photographers to tell you about what style they shoot. You might hear 'I'm totally hands off - I just let the action unfold', or 'I work on a time line and everything happens when it's scheduled', or 'I'll be providing enough direction to get the images you've told me you want'.

Will's Answer: We bring a horsecrop and a referee's whistle to every wedding we shoot. Wait, that's a joke. Three people just clicked away because not everyone has a sense of humor, or knows when I'm being sarcastic.

Okay, real answer. We're kind of schizophrenic on wedding days. We've always got a schedule and a plan, but that plan calls for us to act differently at different times.

We're unobtrusive when we should be (when you're hanging with your friends or during the ceremony, for instance), choreographers during some of the romantic shots, ring leaders when we have to be (because sometimes you need to crack the whip to get the family photos done), and then back to unobtrusive during the reception.

But, we're not just there to document what's happening. Any kid with a cell phone can do that. Our job is to tell the story of your wedding day, in a way that will let you relive how in love you were, how beautiful your dress looked, and how perfect your day was. Sometimes that requires a little direction on our part, as we're going to make sure you look your best in every image we create of you.

We're not going to document your maid of honor having a meltdown because she doesn't fit into her dress the way she wants - we're going to show her caring about you, making you laugh, and lacing you into your dress.

Does that make sense? We're not going to photograph people talking with food in their mouth just because that's real photojournalism. Who cares - weddings aren't real - they're perfect, like Disneyland, and wedding images should reflect that.

By the way, that's why every image we print is completely retouched before it goes to pring. We want every image to be perfect, with no exit signs in your hotel, no blemishes on anyone's skin, and definitely no wine stains on anyone's dress. Choose Focus for your wedding, and every image will be flawless!

What happens if I'm not happy with my wedding pictures?

Just asking this question does not make you a bridezilla - it's okay to ask. You're just wondering, what if, and its a good thing to know in advance. This is one of the issues that's caused so many problems between family members when a cousin or uncle volunteers to be a photographer, florist, or DJ.

But when you talk to professionals, you should insist on a written policy of what happens if things don't work out. There's no excuse for images being incorrectly exposed, out of focus, blurry, missing, or just lacking the quality of images your photographer presented to you as sample work.

Will's Answer: This is an easy one - insist on a written guarantee. We've offered a money-back, keep the negatives guarantee for as long as I've photographed weddings, and though we've never had a bride and groom unhappy with their images, I want every couple to know we stand behind everything we do.

At Focus, that commitment helps us treat every wedding with the level of importance it deserves. Your wedding is not just another work day to us - it's a once-in-a-lifetime celebration that cannot be recreated, and so we're going to treat it that way.

What happens if your camera/lens /flash malfunctions or is lost or stolen on my wedding day?

Bummer of a topic, right? But things do go wrong, and there should never be a gap in your wedding coverage because of an equipment glitch.

Will's Answer: We bring three of everything when we come for a wedding, because even with the top of the line equipment that we use, if a groomsman knocks a camera over a balcony, it's going to break.

When I want reprints, albums, thank you cards, etc,
will you be able to help me?

Capturing images is only a small part of why you're hiring a professional photographer for your wedding. After all, you don't want to look at your wedding images the same way you look at your younger brother's frat party pictures, do you?

Your photographer should be able to show you examples of several different types of albums, finished prints, wall portraits, frames, cards, and anything else you might like to display your wedding images.

Will's Answer: We're a full service studio, and you don't even have to pick your favorite images if you don't want to. We've worked with brides and grooms who were too busy, and just asked us to design a rocking good album for them, and make them some prints to hang on their walls.

Whatever you need, we can provide, and because we do this every day, we're good at it.
