Now for something completely different...
When we introduced our first style of couple’s portraits, Formals, we said those were the images people expected of the bride and groom at a wedding.
These aren’t.
Our non-formal portraits are some of our couples’ favorite images.
Here are the five things that will make an image an unconventional portrait, and any one of them will do it:
Unusual posing (usually subjects on different planes or levels);
-
- Cropping part of the bride or groom’s head out;
-
- At least one person turned backwards;
-
- Intentionally tilted horizons (in film and cinema that’s called going Deutsche);
-
- Objects obscuring the image (like a veil).
All of these things are done for a purpose, and the unconventional couple’s portraits are often our favorites from a wedding.
When you work with Focus Photography, you’ll get images that focus on the romance and connection of a wedding day. You’ll get contemporary images not bound by traditional rules. And you’ll get portraits that have more of a magazine editorial feel.

Featured Review
We were so glad we did. We loved a lot of the 'Unconventional' photos that they took, and asked them to take more of those on our wedding day!
They are excellent photographers...and we fell in love with SO many photos that we could not choose just a couple. So we got an entire album from our romantic shoot! Because of that session, we knew what to expect on the wedding day and it instilled a sense of confidence in us.
